A new Target store could be headed to the Westside, according to documents filed with the City’s Environmental Planning Commission.
The documents, which include a traffic scoping form, detail plans for a nearly 150,000-square-foot “Target Shopping Center.” The applicant on the form was Albuquerque-based civil engineering firm Tierra West LLC and the build-out/implementation year for the store was listed as 2024.
Located at the Coors Pavilion Shopping Center on Albuquerque’s Westside, the proposed Target store would sit on an approximately 22-acre site at 4100 Coors Blvd. NW. That land is adjacent to existing developments, including Chick-fil-A, Panera Bread, Starbucks, St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church and St. Pius X High School.
The Environmental Planning Commission heard a request Thursday from Red Shamrock 4 LLC, the entity that owns the property, calling for the consolidation of several lots in order to facilitate a large retail facility on that plot of land near the intersection of Coors Boulevard NW and St Joseph’s Drive NW. Josh Skarsgard, who owns Red Shamrock, told Albuquerque Business First that the Commission approved the request.
Skarsgard declined to comment further on the proposed retail facility due to confidentiality reasons.
In 2020, original plans for the site were amended to “reduce the scale of commercial development based on market trends at that time,” according to a letter sent to the Environmental Planning Commission by Kimley-Horn and Associates, a planning and design consulting firm based in San Diego. Tom Eagling, a project manager from that firm, is listed as the agent on the amendment request.
That letter goes on to note that the new amendment reverts the plan back to its “originally approved land use for a large retail facility.”
A public relations representative for Target told Business First via email that the company doesn’t have any news to share at this time regarding new stores.
A 45,000-square-foot sports complex had been planned at the Coors Pavilion site before Skarsgard, the developer behind that project with his firm Retail Southwest Development, pivoted to an existing facility near Albuquerque’s Old Town district.
