NAR Code of Ethics Requirements

The Code of Ethics is the foundation of the REALTOR® organization and provides the standards of practice and professionalism that customers expect and deserve. The training must meet specific learning objectives and criteria established by the National Association of REALTORS®. REALTORS® are required to complete ethics training of not less than 2 hours, 30 minutes of instructional time within three-year cycles. A new three-year cycle (cycle 6) began 1/1/19. The deadline for this cycle is 12/31/21.  Please note that this is a completely separate requirement than the ethics training required from the NMREC for licensing.

NAR currently offers two options, one of which is a free course that fulfills the NAR licensing requirement but is no longer offered for CE credit. If you would like to receive CE credit along with fulfilling the NAR requirement, you must complete the paid CE version.

(Please note, if you have taken the Code of Ethics with another entity besides the above NAR online Code of Ethics, you will need to provide your certificate of completion to CARNM for your record)

REALTOR® Safety

While the most publicized physical attacks on real estate agents have involved residential agents, commercial agents are equally at risk. Many of the same safety tips employed by residential agents are relevant for commercial practitioners. It is important to remember that not all safety and security risks are external.

The only thing more tragic than a REALTOR® being harmed while doing their job is knowing that the harm may well have been prevented with some simple best practices.

Safety Concerns Might Include:

  • Office and Industrial listings that may be typically isolated from populated areas, and are often difficult to access.
  • Vacant land listings that can contain ditches and low spots that present accident hazards that create obvious safety risks.
  • Multi-family or self-storage listings present hazards and may require personal safety basics like wearing appropriate gear and confirming adequate lighting.
