If it feels like election season in Albuquerque, that’s because it is. The New Mexico chapter of NAIOP, the commercial real estate development association, is preparing for two events that will feature candidates for mayor and for city council.
First up are the three men that have filed to run for mayor of the Duke City — incumbent Richard Berry and hopefuls Pete Dinelli and Paul Heh. The trio is scheduled to talk about commercial real estate issues at an August 26 forum. Kent Walz, editor of the Albuquerque Journal, is scheduled to be the moderator.
Dinelli is a former city councilor and has held positions at City Hall including chief public safety officer and deputy district attorney. Heh is a retired Albuquerque Police Department sergeant. Berry, who is a contractor by trade, is a frequent attendee of NAIOP meetings, which bring together hundreds of commercial real estate brokers and executives.
On the heels of that event comes a lineup of those running for Albuquerque City Council. Scheduled to appear at a Sept. 5 event are 13 candidates for seats in districts 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9. They are Ken Sanchez, Isaac Benton, Roxanna Meyers, Ronnie Garcia, Klarissa Pena, Tania Silva, Eloise Gift, Dan Lewis, Janice Arnold-Jones, Matthew Biggs, Diane Gibson, Don Harris and Lovie McGee. Ian Anderson, the publisher of Albuquerque Business First, will be the moderator of the event.
The Aug. 26 event is a luncheon, while the Sept. 5 event is a breakfast. Election Day is Oct. 8. For more information and to register, access NAIOP-NM’s website.
Both events are scheduled to be held at the Albuquerque Marriott at 2101 Louisiana Blvd. NE.
