Transit Efforts Could Transform Innovation Corridor

March 25, 2016 by CARNM

Both the rapid transit project and the pedestrian overpass are designed to make Central more accessible.

Doyle said that easing the connection between the Alvarado Transportation Center, Albuquerque Convention Center, and other points east would remove a major impediment to “seamless” economic development in the innovation corridor.

The overall project was originally estimated at about $20 million — designed to make it easier for pedestrians to move from several Downtown destinations to EDo — including the Innovate ABQ site at Central and Broadway Boulevard — a collaboration between the city and UNM that forms the locus of the emerging Innovation Corridor.

Meanwhile, the Albuquerque City Council voted 7-2 on March 21 to fund Albuquerque Rapid Transit with federal dollars — before the money has been approved by Congress. After more than four hours of public comment and deliberation, the council decided not to postpone a resolution to authorize the city’s use of a $69 million Small Starts grant from the Federal Transit Administration for the construction of the bus rapid transit system up and down Central.

Both the rapid transit project and the pedestrian overpass are designed to make Central more accessible, and they make up two important elements in Rio Metro’s long-term strategic vision to leverage a multimodal transportation system to spur economic development.

Marketing Albuquerque as a Region, Not Just a City

March 25, 2016 by CARNM

There’s been lots of talk about strengthening Albuquerque’s cooperative marketing muscle by promoting the metro area as a region, not just a city. And one organization, the Metro New Mexico Development Alliance, is hatching a plan to do just that.

The MNMDA, an economic development organization representing several regions within the Albuquerque metro area, is getting ready to launch a cooperative digital marketing campaign and go live with an updated site selection Web portal that will be branded as “Ingenuity Central” in an effort to help promote areas that are sometimes overlooked when outside companies are considering the city as a place to relocate.

“We all work together to try to bring people in, regardless of where their final stand is, because it’s jobs for our metro area,” said Annemarie Henton, Albuquerque Economic Development director of communications and marketing who serves as the alliance’s new vice president. “It’s investment for our metro area. And what’s good for one of us is good for all of us.”

The economic development groups currently paying dues to MNMDA, which fund its budget, include the Sandoval Economic Alliance, Mid-Region Council of Governments, AED, village of Los Lunas, Estancia Valley Economic Development Association and the Greater Belen Economic Development Corp. The Public Service Co. of New Mexico is also a major contributor to the alliance.

$1,000

amount per month that a new digital marketing campaign will cost the Metro New Mexico Development Alliance (MNMDA) to send out targeted, measurable and interactive ads through online display channels to manufacturing, back office and aviation and aerospace companies, mostly in central and northern California, promoting Albuquerque as an inviting place to do business.

$16,000

approximate amount of the MNMDA’s annual budget

The Voice for Real Estate 42: Condos, Young Buyers, Legal Help

March 23, 2016 by CARNM

NAR wants the Senate to pass changes to make FHA condo financing much easier to get. The story is in The Voice for Real Estate for the week March 21. Other stories: Young buyers like the suburbs, home price increases are hurting renters’ hopes of buying, and February home sales post a big drop, in part because of too-few homes for sale. The nine-minute video also looks at NAR’s program for providing legal help to brokers and associations. It shares thoughts from AEs on the recent AE Institute in San Antonio.
